Early 19th Century rosewood writing / sofa table
A lovely quality early 19th Century rosewood / sofa writing table by “Miles & Edward” the rounded rectangular top with a tan brown leather writing surface with blind and gold tooling, the top having a three quarter brass colonnade gallery, with two oak lined frieze drawers raised on elegant duel column supports and sledge bases terminating on bun feet and castors, the left drawer stamped Miles & Edwards, 134 Oxford Street, London, No 15024. Circa 1830. Miles & Edwards were a high end furnisher operating at 134 Oxford Street from 1822 until the film was bought out by Charles Hindley in 1844. Miles & Edwards initially specialised in fabrics for curtains and furniture but also sold wallpapers and other furnishings, the stamp number denotes the order number.
