19th Century satinwood and inlaid Carlton house desk

A fabulous quality freestanding 19th Century satinwood and inlaid Carlton house desk, the super structure having a decorative pierced brass gallery, below this there is a central cupboard door flanked either side with three drawers with original engraved brass knob handles, and then a concave cupboard door either side of the drawers, all doors have workable locks and keys, the desk having a pull out green leather writing surface decorated with blind and gilt tooling, either end of the desk there are stationary compartments with hinged lift up lids and a single pull out drawer below, the frieze below having five mahogany lined drawers with original engraved brass swan handles, standing on square tapering legs with with spade feet terminating on brass cap and castors. This desk is in excellent condition and profusely inlaid all over incorporating various shell motifs, urns and floral inlay.  The table has a retailer’s label for “Druce & Co. 68, 69 and 58 Baker street, Portman square.  Circa 1890.
